San Diego Therapist for Men Struggling with Depression
Depression Knows No Gender
The media likes to depict depression as a woman’s problem: you see women laying in bed for days, women not reaching out to friends, and women being okay with crying out their feelings. With something as serious as depression, it is important to keep in mind that no matter what your gender, it should be taken seriously in every aspect. For men, it is increasingly difficult to understand when you may be feeling depressed due to a lack of representation or misunderstanding of the symptoms. However, your feelings are just as grave as anyone else’s. You deserve to be taken seriously in your pain and need the time to explore where your depression may be stemming from without fear of judgment.
Depression In Men
Depression in men is something that often flies under the radar mainly due to the absence of mental health being taken into concern in all areas of a man's life. When men are asked to push their his pain and trauma to the side in order to act in ways society deems “appropriate” they may actually be falling even further into whatever may be hurting them. Keeping in mind that for generations, men have been forced to understand and investigate their feelings alone, it becomes easier to imagine how many men are silently suffering from depression symptoms without ever being able to understand exactly what is going on with them. That is why I have created a dedicated space for men where they can feel validated and comforted in their pain, allowing them to truly open up about what’s going on in their minds and how they want to move forward.
How Men’s Therapy Can Help You
Depression therapy for men is just that: a session where you will be asked to be open about what hurts you, how your depression takes over your life and why this problem keeps coming back. In everyday life, men often find that there are very few spaces where they can be vulnerable about their innermost thoughts and feelings, so providing a set time and place where a man can fully be himself is what I strive for. Below are some ways in which we can navigate your depressive episodes in your sessions:
Look deeply into where your depression found its roots
Understand your depression symptoms and how to spot them
Differentiate between “being sad” and going through a depressive episode
Identify methods of communication with loved ones about your depression
Come up with healthy ways of dealing with depression
Creating A Space For Big Feelings
Men deserve to have their pain taken seriously, no matter where that pain may come from. Mental health has taken the back burner space for too long, and now we must find new ways to help men in their journey towards understanding their feelings. Depression should be addressed properly to provide the most helpful and genuine resources available, but it is up to you to take the first step. If you are a guy living in San Diego and feeling overwhelmed by your feelings, please reach out today so we can figure out a plan to put you on the path to greater happiness.
